Show you care about your customers

Developing a personal relationship, even a slight one, can make a huge difference in the way your customers will relate to you and your business. Think about it for a minute. Who would most likely get the best reception: the salesperson who simply tells the customer about new products and offers or the salesperson who takes even a minute (literally, just one minute) to ask about the customer’s family, recent vacation, or the unusual plant hanging in the office window? Those touches mean a great deal to customers. After all, customers are people and people want to be noticed and appreciated.

One way to appreciate your customers is to give promotional gifts. This doesn’t have to be a weekly or even monthly occurrence. In fact, once or twice a year may be enough (aside from holiday gifts, if you are so inclined). The customer will see that you care about them and it will make them want to do business with you all the more. Presence of mind is vital and this is one reason that desk gadgets and calendars are popular items.
If you are working toward establishing a relationship with a customer, strive to pick a promotional gift that has some significance or use. While pens and notepads are great little items, they may tend to get lost. However, if you happen to know that your new customer is a chocoholic, you will make great strides with a trendy gift such as personalized M&M’s. Not to mention that it’s unlikely that anyone else put so much thought into choosing the item.
